Time Warner Cable to Offer Up to $20,000 Stipends for Research

February 17, 2010 (New York) - - Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) today announced that it has begun an innovative program to award stipends designed to foster research dedicated to increasing understanding of the benefits and challenges facing the future of digital technologies in the home, office, classroom and community.  The stipends will vary in amount, up to $20,000.  Individual researchers affiliated with universities and not-for-profits will be eligible to apply for the stipends.

Fernando Laguarda, Vice President for External Affairs and Policy Counselor, will serve as director of the new program. According to Laguarda, “Time Warner Cable believes that supporting research into the key issues confronting the digital communications industry will improve the public debate and understanding of the beneficial role that digital technologies have on our lives, whether at home, in business or in the community. We challenge those who have a great idea for research to come forward and be heard.“

Individuals and groups who are interested in applying for a grant can find more information and the specific research topics at www.twcresearchprogram.com. Applicants will be asked to write a three page summary outlining their approach to one of the topics and to submit a brief resume for each author. Multidisciplinary teams are encouraged, to provide the broadest possible insights.

“A robust dialogue about the current state and future of digital technology is one of the keys to ensuring that Time Warner Cable continues to serve the needs of our customers and that across industries, the benefits of digital technology are maximized for all users. We are excited to see what the experts come up with,“ added Laguarda.
